Marjory Carter Pattern Collection
This is available either as a CD or as a book. Both the book and the CD are now sold out.
Profits from the sale of this collection go to the Shakespeare Hospice in memory of Marjory Elsie Carter 1915 - 2006
Marjory Carter first learnt lacemaking at the age of 5 years old and continued to make lace until her death at the age of 91. During those 86 years, as she met many lacemakers, young and old, she built up an extensive and outstanding collecton of prickings and parchments. It is from this collection that The Lace Society purchased, at the suggestion of Anita Wilkinson, a large number of original parchments from the executors of the estate, and is now publishing them as a CD and also as a book.
"This CD contains 120 copies of old Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire parchments which were in Marjory Carter's collection. The patterns can be enlarged on screen for study purposes and can be printed off on to A4 paper to give accuracy in sizing and to enable new prickings to be made. The collection is a wonderful source of material for lacemakers, designers and fashion historians.
Lacemakers will be eager to get their favourites onto their pillows and our designers will soon be saying "If I just move that bit over there - will it still work?".
