2 day workshops

Creating something new in lace

19th & 20th June  2010

At

Aston Cantlow Village Hall,

Nr Alcester, Warwickshire

Following the great response by members at this year’s AGM when members were asked how many would wish to delve into design, the society is very pleased to announce and very excited to offer 3 workshops over 2 days.  There are three tutors involved, specialising in three different areas.

Louise West will be “Playing with Patterns”.

Louise has been making lace for 17 years now, and has experience in Bucks and Torchon, and really enjoys Bedfordshire lace.

Louise has a City and Guilds Certificate and Diploma in Lacemaking which lead onto the BA (Hons) Textile Design at the University of Derby.  Throughout the last 6 years she has been doing both traditional and contemporary design work for lace, including the design for the facade of the Nottingham Contemporary building.  Louise thoroughly enjoys playing with designs for lace patterns, and seeing how designs can be changed and new ideas developed from non lace sources.  Louise will be taking you through the first steps in changing direction – putting a corner on a straight edge and adapting patterns for different uses.  Louise’s workshop will be for the lacemaker who wishes to have a go, to start and create from existing patterns, how to re-ground an old pattern, add a corner and creating a motif.  Have a look at www.louisewestlacedesign.blogspot.com

Jean Eke will be “Creating a Picture”.  Since 1972 Jean has been studying lace and making bobbin lace.  Learning through the W.I. and holding their certificates,

Jean is a founder member of the Lindfield Lacemakers and Designers, speaker on lace history and lace as a modern craft.  A teacher by profession, who likes to teach beginners as well as those who wish to design.

Jean is a published, inspirational lacemaker, who enjoys creating “free style” lace, working mainly in white, mixing traditional techniques to achieve the required effect and telling a story while creating a picture.  If you have worked with adapting patterns and wish to take your designing to a new stage then this workshop is a must for you.  Have a look at www.jeanmaryeke.com

Angela Brown will be taking you through the Lace R-XP design computer software and showing you how to get the most out of this comprehensive program.  In her workplace, Angela uses a CAD package for building services and is able to transfer some of that professional knowledge into the lace program.  You will already need to have purchased the software, so bring your computer along and let's get you going.  Have a look at www.briarlace.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

The cost for the two-day workshop of your choice is £50.00, this gives excellent value for money.  Tea and coffee will be provided on arrival, lunch and teatime, please bring your own packed lunch.

If you are travelling from afar, then please contact the Lace Society, we will be able to  provide you with local Bed and Breakfast contacts.  £10 deposit will secure your place, with the balance due 14th May 2010.  Spaces are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.  Further workshop details will be included in the February issue of Lacemaking.
